Program overview

The Responsible Speed program is a pro-active educational initiative developed and sustained by traffic safety advocates focused on teaching young adults the importance of defensive driving and choosing to drive responsible speeds.  Within this program, the young adult will be invited to spend a day at Bandimere Speedway with racing and safety professionals.

Utilize education to teach young adults the importance of defensive driving and identifying responsible Speeds.

The Responsible Speed Program will consist of:

Morning

·        Registration – 0700

o   Liability paperwork

o   Parent materials

o   Vehicle inspections – Bandimere Staff

·         Orientation – Guest speakers -  0730

o   Parents are invited to attend orientation

o   Amy Nichols, Patti & Frank Ondrish will speak

·         Alive at 25 NLEC Course – 0800

o   Taught by Trooper Joy Grissom

Lunch  - Provided by the Brandon & Paul Foundation/Beverages  provided by Pepsi

·         Guest speaker

Afternoon  - Approximately 1330

·         Behind the wheel training

o   Provided by Bandimere Experts & Colorado State Patrol Driving Instructors/State Troopers

§  Behind the wheel basics

·         Handling and steering

§  Lollipop drill

·         Speed decisions

·         Distracted driving

·         Driver vision

§  Decision making drill

·         Split second decision making

§  Off road recovery

·         Modeled by driving instructor only

·         Racing Tips – Bandimere Staff

Evening – Approximately 1630(Optional)

·         Take it to the Track

·         Dinner – (TBA – possibly provided by AAA Colorado)

 What to bring:

·         Valid driver’s license

·         Vehicle registration

·         Proof of insurance

·         A car that is appropriate for driving skills training

·         Registered owner/parent will need to sign liability

 The students will be signing Bandimere’s liability waiver as will their parents if they are under 18.  Must be 16 with a valid driver’s license.

Must be age 16 or older and have a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, a car appropriate for driving skills training, registered owner/parent will need to sign liability.  The students will be signing the Bandimere liability waiver -- as will their parents, it they are under age 18.
